Since his inauguration, President Obama has been struggling to realistically live up to his election promises. His latest attempt at implementing one of these promises is to radically change health care in the United States by setting up a public health insurance plan to operate alongside existing private health care insurance.
And yet the 500 delegates of the American Medical Association who listened to the President were not enthusiastic. The recession continues to hit the insurance industry as drives to improve profits spur further cuts in jobs. Today it was the turn of Axa Insurance to announce they plan to reduce their staff numbers in the UK by 560. About half will be redundancies. Read.
Oh dear, this was bound to happen. In a desperate atempt to deal with the recession many Brits have cancelled or failed to renew their insurance policies according to the Association Of British Insurers. Most worrying of all, 17% have failed to take out building contents insurance. What do they think will happen if their home sustains serious damage? They will have to pay out for repairs themselves. If they cannot afford buildings insurance they certainly cannot afford to rebuild their home in a crisis. Read.
